max password lenght gpt uefi

description

I had to reinstall my computer, and choose an gpt/uefi setup, because of Veracrypt 18a.

Now I have the problem, that only the first 19th chars are accepted. The intend Password is 64 char long.

Is it correct, that only the first 19th chars are accepted, or do I have an error in my setup?

I'm used to the enter the password with an Inputstick (www.inputstick.com) in combination with keepass2android. Worked great in the past, and I hoped so with gpt.

Thanks for help.

I thought VeraCrypt did NOT support GPT/UEFI. copied from the VeraCrypt document;

VeraCrypt can currently encrypt the following operating systems (BIOS mode only, UEFI/GPT not
supported):
 Windows 10
 Windows 8 and 8.1
 Windows 7
 Windows Vista (SP1 or later)
 Windows XP
 Windows Server 2012
 Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
 Windows Server 2003

After some testing it seems, that the way the input is proceeded is different with gpt/uefi as with mbr.

With gpt it depends how fast the password is typed. I was able to enter the password with the normal keyboard, but not with an secondary keyboard as the input stick or an other second keybord. Even with slow typing.

Had tested it with two other machines, one with gpt one with mbr. On the machine with mbr no issues at all, on the gpt machine the same situation.

Have you tried Beta 2 1.19 version which fixes keyboard input?

https://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/files/VeraCrypt%20Nightly%20Builds/

Good catch on the documentation needing to be updated regarding UEFI is now limited supported. (Limitations: No hidden OS, No bootloader custom message.)

I tried Beta 2. It work with slow typing.

With normal typing speed it won't work. Tried it with a 64 char and a 10 char password. Both the same issue.

By the MBR version, e. g. the PIM line is filled with Stars to masquerade the number. BETA 2 just show one star on each line only, after the enter key is send.

Enter Password: *
PIM (Leave empty for default): *
Authorization failed. Wrong password, PIM or hash. Decrypt error(3)
