Freezing and data loss on Windows 8

description

I have a number of mounted volumes on Windows 8. Previously they were TrueCrypt volumes and all was well. I removed TrueCrypt and installed VeraCrypt instead, and writes to those volumes started to randomly fail.

The symptoms are that I become unable to access files on those volumes, getting "file not found" messages while other apps are apparently still writing data without issue. Eventually I am unable to list drives on the computer, via command prompt, disk manager or Explorer. As more processes hang due to pending I/O the system becomes unusable and is unable to shut down or restart.

I tried upgrading the volumes to VeraCrypt volumes, but this did not improve things. Rolling back to TrueCrypt seems to have fixed the issue.

Windows 8.1 x64
16GB RAM
Intel Xeon CPU
Mix of HDDs from different vendors and SSDs

I did some further investigation and it's definitely Veracrypt. The machine is stable with Prime95 for a few days, after removing Veracrypt. I re-installed TrueCrypt and it's still fine.

There is something about the VeraCrypt driver that causes these severe issues. Is there some way I can debug it?

Decrypt them(with the last app that worked), uninstall veracrypt, reinstall veracrypt(beta 1.18) and encrypt them again.
