Can't install VeraCrypt Setup stuck forever

description

Hi,

I currently have TC 7.1a running.

I tried it quite some times now but i simply cannot install VeraCrypt on my Windows 8.1.
"VeraCrypt Setup" hangs "forever" without ever showing a setup screen. Looking at the TaskManager it is stuck using about 15% of the cpu (im on an i7 3770), even for half an hour without anything changing.

If anyone needs more Information or has a hint how I may find out the reason for my issue that would be great.

Here's some Information about my System:

OS: Windows 8.1 (patched up-to date on 2015-03-05)
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770
RAM: 24GB
System Drive: Crucial M500 480GB (CT480M500S)

Hi,

This kind of installer/setup hang have never been reported before on VeraCrypt but the internet is filled with similar reports of hangs like this one with other software installation setup so it may be an issue with your Windows configuration.

In order to advance more on this:
  • After you run the installer, did you have the User Account Control prompt?
  • Did you try running the installer directly as an administrator by right-clicking on the setup file and choosing "Run as administrator"?
  • Are you able to manually verify the signature of the exe file? Righ-click on the file, choose Properties, and go to the "Digital Signature" panel. There, select the signature and click "Details". Does the details show up or is it stuck?
  • Can you check Windows Event Viewer to see if anything is logged their that maybe linked to VeraCrypt setup?
  • A technical approach is to use the Microsoft tool Process Monitor. After you run it, a dialog show up asking for filtering information: Choose "Process Name" -> "excludes" -> "VeraCrypt" -> "Exclude" as show in the screenshot below and click Add, followed by apply and OK. After that, run the setup and you should see all the event linked to it. Wait for several minutes and then you can click save to event to a file. Post the file so that we can analyze it.
    ProcMonConfigVeraCrypt
With all these elements, we'll be able to understand better what's happening.

Sorry for not giving any response for so long... BUT

I found something very interesting today, including a solution for me and my System.
So when I started the setup i saw (in procmon) it was stuck right after "open language, read language, close language).

Here's the "fix" which seems bit odd to me, but maybe it helps.
My personal Download Folder is not located on the C:\${myprofile}\Downloads but on E:\Downloads.
So I've decided to give it a try and moved VeraCrypt setup to my C Drive and voila, it works fine now.

I hope it helps and i promise to answer within a day or two this time.

hello,
same issue for me, Windows 7 and My downloads folder was on the F: partition. Launch Install, UAC prompt but after without ever showing a setup screen. Looking at the TaskManager it is stuck using about 25% of the cpu (quad core). Thanks to reichi for the tip. I have put the install File on C:\temp and it works fine.
Idrassi peut-être à mettre dans les trucs et astuces si le problème ne peut pas être résolu. En tout cas merci pour ton excellent travail.
