Incorrect password/PIM/PRF message after ubuntu reinstall

A few months ago I re-installed ubuntu.
After i did that I started to have trouble with my encrypted partition opening. Interestingly, it would, on occasion, actually open. It seemed to be random when it would. The most likely explanation for this is that I was sometimes entering the correct password and sometimes not, but I don't believe that to be the case. I'm very familiar with my password.

So I managed to copy off the data from one of my partitions but not my other one and now that won't open at all.

What I have tried is using earlier versions of veracrypt (before I re-installed ubuntu I was on an older version) but that made absolutely no difference.

All I can think of is to try opening the partition on another operating system as upgrading ubuntu was when all this started.

Is there any way the partition could be damaged? Is there anything I can try to open it?
