Sorry for this basic question.

I have 2 HDs in my computer, one internal and the other external (USB). Both are encrypted by VeraCrypt. The external HD is only "seen" by system when connected before turning on computer. It's a System Favorite one.

My question is: How can system "see" the external HD if it's connected after turning on computer? And how can the external HD be removed at any time? Can it still be also a System Favorite?

If you want to safely disconnect the external drive you have to disable the writing cache - which will cause worse performance of the drive.
In order to safely disconnect you have to dismount and then use the windows "safe disconnect" feature.

The drive itself is detect by the OS even if you connect after booting, isnt it?
The VC volume is just not mounted, right?
In that case you can manually mount the drive (mount volume in VC main dialogue).
