Hard disk always running in VC

I have just bought a new external HD and encrypted it with Vera Crypt to check if I can move from True Crypt.
Everything went fine, except that disk is always working while mounted which did not happen with TC. The diode used to blink only when copy/paste something or walking through catalogs. I could hear the drive working as well only then.

Now with VC the HDD is only mounted and empty, and diode blinks. The disk seems to be doing something as well, I can hear and feel disk heads moving, it's definitely no resting. I have copied around 100GB to a disk and it behaves the same.

Just to check if this is normal behaviour and not the disk issue, I have encrypted the simple 4GB pendrive, mounted it and for a moment it stopped blinking (diode) and then started to blink again and from that moment on, it's blinking all the time.

Please advize.

VeraCrypt version: 1.14
System: Linux Mint 17.2
Encryption: Whole Partition -> Will be mounted only on Linux OS -> files larger than 4GB -> EXT4
